Imagine being on the other side of the world, in a war zone, stressed, maybe even scared and wondering what’s going on back at home and with your job.
That’s the reality for our active duty military service men and women.
BB&T’s Military and Veterans Community Business Resource Group (MVC BRG) brought this concern to the attention of our Diversity and Inclusion and Executive Management teams. BB&T’s Executive Management team acted swiftly with SunTrust’s Executive Management to create a plan to ensure our deployed and soon-to-deploy associates and teammates know we remember and revere them back home.
BB&T Chairman and CEO Kelly King and SunTrust Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers sent them a message of support that included updates about our proposed new company, Truist, and reassurance their futures with Truist will be safe. Additionally, teams from BB&T and SunTrust both packed care packages for their active duty associates and teammates to make sure they had items to help them while away from home. BB&T’s packages contained an Amazon gift card, a phone card, an external hard drive for downloading movies, a deck of playing cards, a soccer ball, and digital and handwritten messages from associates across our footprint.
BB&T MVC BRG Georgia Chapter Co-Chairs David Bratcher and Sabra Neidert, along with Market President Ken Gaylord and members of his leadership team, helped pack and ship the BB&T associate boxes.
Within just two weeks, executive management, associates and teammates from both organizations delivered on an important opportunity of outreach, proving that taking care of our heroes is a mission we can all get behind.
