MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BB&T today said it has named Jodie Hughes as president of its West Virginia North community bank region based here. As regional president, he will be responsible for commercial banking, small business banking, retail banking, corporate banking and retail mortgage banking.
He succeeds Brent Robinson, who retired July 31 after a 29-year banking career.
Hughes, 38, previously served as BB&T's city executive in Louisville, Ky., since 2005. Prior to that, he served five years as senior credit officer in Morgantown. Hughes joined BB&T in 1996 as a business services officer.
"Jodie brings a wealth of proven leadership, experience and excellent results to his new role as president of our West Virginia North Region," said Phyllis Arnold, president of BB&T' West Virginia operations. "His extensive commercial knowledge and career accomplishment make him an excellent choice to succeed a veteran like Brent Robinson."
Hughes, a Georgetown, S.C., native, earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Eastern New Mexico University. He is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
"I want to do everything I can to continue to make BB&T a client-driven company in the West Virginia North Region, one with a solid commitment to provide the best value in the financial services industry," he said. "Our wide range of products and services, commitment to our communities, and dedication to local decision-making will continue to make a significant difference in the financial lives of our clients."
BB&T operates 31 financial centers in its West Virginia North Region, which includes Berkeley, Harrison, Jefferson, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio and Preston counties.
BB&T divides its footprint into autonomous community bank regions - each with its own president - to keep decisions close to the customer.
Robinson began his banking career with Mercantile Banking and Trust Company in Moundsville. He joined Mountaineer Bankshares in 1987 as chief financial officer and was promoted to president in 1998. Mountaineer Bankshares merged with One Valley Bancorp in 1994. Robinson was named president of BB&T's West Virginia North Region in 2000 following the BB&T-One Valley merger.
Robinson earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from West Liberty State College and Master of Business Administration degree from Wheeling Jesuit University. He is chairman of the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics.
"Brent has certainly played a pivotal leadership role in West Virginia and we can't thank him enough for his dedicated, client-focused leadership," Arnold said. "We've valued his clear thinking, wisdom and expertise and wish him the best in this newest phase of his life."
